Quick Look: Google Nexus One

Today Google announced the long rumored “Google Phone” which will actually be known as the Google Nexus One.  The Nexus One will be available in two varieties, an unlocked unsubsidized model that will be sold directly by Google for $529.00 and a subsidized model available on the T-Mobile network for $179.00 (with a 2 year contract).  The Nexus One will also be available on Verizon and Vodafone later this spring.  Lets look at a run down of the Nexus One’s features:

  • 3.7-inch AMOLED display
  • 1GHz Snapdragon processor
  • Compass, GPS, accelerometer plus light and proximity sensor
  • 5 megapixel camera with LED flash
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • Multicolored LED under the trackball
  • Two mics onboard, one on the bottom and one on the back, for the purpose of noise cancellation
  • Android 2.1 OS

Google Chrome Overtakes Safari in Web Browser Usage

According to Rick Whiting of ChannelWeb, Google Chrome has eclipsed Apple’s Safari browser to become the world’s third most popular Web browser.  Chrome, which has been around just a little more than one year, accounted for 4.63 percent of browser usage in December, compared to Apple Safari usage of only 4.46 percent last month.  Recently Google launched extensions for Chrome adding to the popular of the speedy browser.
